10 Steps to Success - Year 3

Year three is the first year of the four year journey through the juniors or 'Key Stage 2'.

We consolidate basic skills and promote a more independent approach to learning and personal organisation skills.

We study a range of curriculum topics: History and Geography; Stone age to Romans, Contrasting geographical localities, Science; Rocks, soils and fossils, Keeping healthy, Forces, Plants and Light. Your child will also begin to learn French as our school’s chosen modern foreign language. Year Three also experience Wider Opportunities music lessons where each child learns to play a musical instrument. This year, the instrument is the ‘Dood’, an entry level clarinet, based on the fingering of the descant recorder. These lessons are taught by a visiting accredited teacher from Hereford Music Service.

Some of our regular trips each year include  a visit to the Pantomime which is linked to our literacy work on writing play scripts and a trip to Caerleon Roman Fortress when studying the Romans. Also, depending on tides, we sometimes visit the seaside to study contrasting locations.
