Practise reading ALL Tricky Words - I, to, go, no, the, into, he, she, me, we, be, my, you, was, they, all, are
(Use the words from the challenge bag as flash cards or download a set from the Tapestry Documents section)

INTRODUCE
Today we will be practising the tricky word, 'you'.
Look in challenge bag - can your child find 'you' or look in a reading book, can your child find 'you' within the text?
Remind the children that some words have one or two tricky letters in them
Write 'you' on a piece of paper - which letter/s are tricky? y-ou. We have to 'train our brain' to change the 'ou' to an 'oo' sound. Pointing to someone as you repeat the word 'you' will give children an action to help them remember.

PRACTISE
Play 'Countdown'
How many words can your child read in a minute? Set a personal best and every time you repeat this skill, can they increase their PB? Perhaps keep a record of their scores.
For today have the following words written on a piece of paper to help your child to practise words containing the 'ur' and 'ow' sound: fur, burn, burp, surf, down, town, owl, how, now
Later in the day, your child may like to help you make and write flash cards for future phonics sessions - rainbow writing is fun, use a different coloured pen for each sound

N.B. If you would like to do this one minute challenge daily you could use words from the challenge bag

APPLY
Hold up captions (use the screen/print off captions/copy on a piece of paper)
Encourage your child to read the caption - can they spot any tricky words? Can they blend the sounds together?
1. Is it cool for you to burp?
2. How can you see an owl at night?
3. Will a cow go to town with you?
