We wish all of our Year 6 children the very best for Secondary School and beyond! We will miss you!

St Paul's CofE Primary School

In your light shall we see light

Week beginning: 4th May

Thursday 7th May

In school today, we were planning to be having a day of VE celebrations in preparation for tomorrow's Bank Holiday. One of the highlights was to have been a 'Bring and Share' lunch (otherwise known as 'Eat your own bodyweight in sausage rolls - teachers only of course!).
Can you prepare something for lunch today? You could make sandwiches (egg for me please!), make cakes or biscuits (Dot's favourite) or even make a home-made pizza!

If you would like an extra challenge, there is a 'Make a Pizza' and a 'Make a Sandwich' activity in the 'My Assignments' area on Busy Things.

Wednesday 6th May

Lots of people are making colourful bunting to put in their windows to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE day. You might have done this already, but if you haven't perhaps you could make some today? I have put on two versions - one blank to make your own design or one to colour in, or you could find some scraps of colourful paper or fabric to cut into triangles.
Have fun!

Tuesday 5th May

Many children enjoyed seeing and trying Joe's activities about the 'Wise and Foolish Builders'. This week, he has chosen to share the story of 'The Lost Coin' with us and has some suggestions for things you could do...

Game: One person in your house hide a coin. See how long it takes the others to find it, the person who can keep it hidden for longest wins. (picture above)

In the Bible Jesus tells a story about a lady who lost a silver coin. When she realised it was missing she carefully searched the whole house trying to find it. The lost coin was so special to her that when she eventually found it she organised a party! She invited her friends and neighbours around saying, “Rejoice I have found my missing coin.”

Draw a picture of the lady finding her coin.

It might seem strange that the lady got so excited over a coin. No one normally has a party because they’ve found something that was lost. It shows just how special and important the coin was to her. Christians believe that Jesus told this story because he wanted us to know how important and precious we are to him. So much so that when someone chooses to become a Christian the angels in heaven are really, really happy.

Craft and wordsearch in the pictures.

Bible Verse: Luke 15 verses 8 - 10
“Suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Won’t she light a lamp and sweep the entire house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she will call in her friends and neighbours and say, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.”

You can download Joe's PDF below. If you look on Tapestry, Miss H-C has recorded 'Magic Penny' to go alongside this activity!

Monday May 4th

Dot has been collecting again! She has found five things in the house and has been trying to put them in order from heaviest to lightest. She lifts two objects at a time and decides which she thinks is heavier and which is lighter. It can be quite tricky!
Dot chose things that were a similar size because she thought they might be a similar weight too - I wonder if she's right? What do you think?
Have a go with some things in your house - can you think of a way to check whether you are right? What do we use to measure weight? Dot has found three different ways of weighing hers.

If you would like an extra challenge, there is an activity about ordering weights in the 'My Assignments' section of Busy Things.
