Year Four

Welcome to Year 4!

Miss Coates and Mr Vaughan are back together in Year 4 this year! Here you'll find all the information you need about Year 4.

PE is on Wednesdays and Fridays this year!

We would like the children to come to school on Wednesdays and Fridays in their school PE kit.

If the weather is drizzly, we'll still try to go out, so it might be a good idea to put in a spare change of trousers on damp days just in case the children get a bit muddy. These don't have to be uniform - any tracksuit bottoms would do as the spares.

We will also be going swimming this half term - more information to follow...

HOMEWORK

We ask the children to do three daily tasks at home to support their learning in school:

  • 10 minutes of reading. We have some wonderful new reading books in school! Please hear your child read every day, and record reading in the pink book and send it into school each day in the homework wallet.
  • 10 minutes of spelling. The list of 13 words (three of the 'Year 4 Spellings' and ten from a common spelling pattern) is sent home each Friday, and tested the following Friday. More information about spelling activities to try at home are available below.
  • 10 minutes of times-tables. Each week we ask the children to learn a times-table. We have started this term by revising the 2x, 5x and 10x table. Just a few minutes each day reciting these key facts can make a real difference! Make sure your child learns the whole phrase (e.g. "six twos are twelve"), and uses the whole phrase in their answer. We test times-tables on Fridays.

In addition to this daily homework, we also have a weekly times-tables challenge book which we send home on every Friday.

Our work this term looks at "Arrivals and Departures".

Find out more about this topic on the planner, available below.

Our History and Geography topic work inspires our reading and writing in English. In this section, you'll find information about the things we do, and some great links for extra practice at the important skills we learn.
