Welcome to Year One!
Hello! Welcome to our Year One class page! Our teachers are Miss Ackerman and Miss Hayden-Cox and our teaching assistants are Mrs Simpson, Mrs Bayliss and Mrs Bradshaw.
Every week we publish a newsletter with photos on Tapestry for the Year One parents. On this website we have selected a few of our favourite moments to give a flavour of life in Year One.
This Spring our topics have been "The Magic Toyshop" and "Space: Our world and Beyond". The highlights of this term have included a visit from Hereford Museum where we took part in an "old and new toys" workshop and making our own toys using moving parts and junk materials. We have also enjoyed writing our own space stories based on the book "Beegu" by Alexis Deacon and programming Beegu Beebots. We have been looking at place value to 50 in Maths and have been practicing counting in 2s and 5s.
This autumn term, one of our focus texts has been Hansel and Gretel. The children enjoyed making a variety of sweet treats for Hansel and Gretel including cupcakes and roof-tile biscuits. During the second half term we have been thinking about superheroes and people who help us. One of the highlights was receiving a visit from two nurses. In Year One we have great fun taking part in active English and Maths sessions such as solving clues to find book characters hidden around the school.
